America in all its Glory

Mabry Mill, Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia

What a gorgeous shot of Mabry Mill in the Blue Ridge Mountains (Virginia). Such a peaceful, serene setting.

Sitting on the edge of the water. Taking a worm and baiting it on the hook of a line that is attached to a long, thin tree branch. Gently "cast" the line into the water. Now to sit quietly, watching the dragonflies skip across the surface of the calm water. Listening to the frogs calling to one another. All the thoughts of your daily life are no longer with you - all you are thinking about at this moment is the beauty of the trees, where they simply meld into the banks of the water.

Who cares if you ever get a nibble on your line. Just to enjoy this moment that you will never live again. That is life!

Every crime committed by an illegal immigrant should never have happened!!!

Read my posting under Illegal Immigrants.

A quote from President Theodore Roosevelt addressed on immigration in 1907:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty, and that is a loyalty to the American people."

If this is the best we have, the United States is in serious trouble!

Running for the Presidential office for 2008 are:

Democrats
Joe Biden
Hillary Clinton
Christopher Dodd
John Edwards
Dennis Kucinich
Barack Obama
Bill Richardson
and
Republican
Sam Brownback
Rudolph Guiliani
Mike Huckabee
Duncan Hunter
John McCain
W. Mitt Romney
Fred Thompson

If this is the best the United States has to offer up as President of the United States out of a population of 302,586,723, we are in serious trouble.

I honestly wish I knew!

The sad fact is, anyone who probably fits all the criteria to be a President and is honest from day one would not run because of all the mudslinging. They don't want the extreme scrutiny that is involved with running - and I can't say as I blame them.

I can't tell you how often I drag out my video of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" to watch and just hope that there is that someone like "Mr. Smith" out there who will step up to the plate.

But that could be wishful hoping.

At this point, I don't trust anybody in the running. I don't think any of them are truly honest through and through.

How sad that this country has to stoop so low just to find someone to run this country.

The thing is that, to paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld, you don't go into an election with the candidates you want, you go in with the ones you have. All the voters can do is to try to get people they like to run (Al Gore, maybe?) and then to support the best of them.

I'm for Obama. I can remember 1960 and the change JFK brought. I think we need the same today. I'm not sure that Obama can do that, but he's the only one who can
